The power of play

HelloooooOOOOO,

I´m Thomas Joschko,

the creator behind Tojoplay. This project is my passion, a project where i can express my values and beliefs through creative endeavors.

“We forget how to play or we tell ourselves that we shouldn´t behave that way. Let´s change that- Together!”

Things i like:

I love the simple joy of spinning a top or watching a kite dance in the wind, interacting with these things brings a sense of wonder and fascination which is truly magical. Also i like to create weird, quirky characters and objects of play. A huge inspiration for me is nature. Discovering, experimenting with new materials, forms, ideas everyday puts a smile on my face. I like to think of my mind like a bubble gum. Streching it in multiple directions and exploring new ways. Sometimes i get stuck but that´s ok. I´ll just keep on spinning.

What do i do?

Most of the time i have no idea what i´m doing. But i try my best to make the world a better place through play, by designing for play. Which sounds like i design forplay. Haha..which i of course don´t.

Why do i do it?

Because i feel like the world needs play more than ever. People are forgetting to play or don´t even know how to. Let´s change that. Together!

What makes a good plaything?

I believe play should be interactive and engaging, my playthings aim to bring people together and to unlock their curiosity. I believe playthings should be less about “Who is this for?” and more about “What can this help a child explore?”

When we design for a child rather than a type of play, we give them a chance to freely explore new stories and activities without our preconcieved notions of who they are, what they like, or what they want to do or become.

Interaction: A good plaything should be selfexplainatory and invite you to play with. Should leave

Fantasy: Playthings should provide enough space for multiple ways of playing and for fantasy to unfold.

Coordination: How does the child interact with it?

Design: It´s ok if it looks unfinished, the simpler the more it invites your child to play. Should be multifunctional,

Material: Plays a big role and is the answer to a lot of questions when designing. The quality and compatibility of the material, as well as sustainability in production, are also important.

Toys and Racism- Looking past color

Toys and Anti-Racism

Not all toys that portray black people are racist. In fact, for some years now there have been more and more dolls and other toys that convey a realistic, appreaciative picture of black people. Black chlidren can relate to these toys and feel affirmed in their identites. White children can learn from them that people look different, and can experience diversity as something positive. Many of these toys have been created through back peoples initatives.

Unleash your creativity with play toy designs

I believe in the power of play and convinced that if we can play together as equals, then we can live together. Encouraging people to celebrate and express their individuality through play.
